World famous Kyokushin Karateka from Japan join the Summer Camp 2009 in Oberstimm/Germany

From Friday, July 10 until Sunday, July 12 the Kyokushin Karate SV Oberstimm celebrates an international Kyokushin Karate Summer Camp 2009 of superlatives. With Shihan Shigeru Tabata (7. Dan) and Shihan Yoshikazu Koi (6. Dan) the Karateka of Oberstimm could invite two of the most popular Japanese grand master. According to the motto “one big Kyokushin family” 80 Karateka from Holland, Poland, Austria and Germany arrived on Friday to make an unforgettable experience.

On Wednesday July 08, at 10 o`clock pm, Sensei Dietmar Danisch, Walter Stippel (Head of department), Gerry Hohma (driver) and Detlef Juergens (Translator) welcomed both Shihan at Munich airport. After the long flight about 20 hours via Moscow, the Shihans were very tired and so the Germany delegation brought the guests from Japan to the hotel “Euringer” in Oberstimm.

On Thursday, after common breakfast, the delegation has made a short trip with the Shihans to the hall of liberation in Kelheim and a boot trip to the famous monastery Weltenburg. The Shihans were very impressed of the monument and the nature and took a lot of pictures. In the afternoon the Shihans took a break in the hotel to digest the big Schweinshaxe which was served at lunch. At 6 o`clock pm the Kyu graduation test for the students of Oberstimm and Pfaffenhofen started.

The Kyu graduation test on Thursday took 3 hours and was held according to the Japanese Graduation program. After that, the day ends in a comfort atmosphere in the hotel Euringer.

On Friday, Sensei Dietmar Danisch invited the Shihans and the German Delegation in his house for a traditional Bavarian breakfast with white sausages, sweet mustard and other delicious food. During the breakfast the time schedule for the summer camp was coordinated with the Shihans.

At 1 o´clock pm the delegation brought the Shihans back to the hotel and the first guests from Holland, Poland and Austria could be welcomed.

At 4 o´clock pm Shihan Tabata and Shihan Koi started with the first training unit in the gym. After a common kihon and idogeiko training and the first 100 Jodan Mawashi Geri in sequence, Shihan Tabata trained the 35 kids and Shihan Koi trained the adults in Combinations.

After a substantial dinner all Karateka were prepared for the night training on the sport field by torchlight. Here 200 Jodan Mawashi Geri in sequence were done.

On Saturday at 5:30 am, Sensei Dietmar woke up the little tired fighter for the morning run and the following training unit at the sport field. Shihan Koi trained one group in Kata and Kumite and Shihan Tabata trained the black belts in Kata. At the end of this training unit 300 Jodan Mawashi Geri in sequence were done. The training unit after breakfast at 10 o´clock am was held like the training in the morning, but only the sequence of Jodan Mawashi Geri exalted up to 400. After lunch the last training unit on Saturday started. Shihan Koi trained different fist and foot combinations in Kumite and between this combinations the trainings partner had to change, so that each Karateka got a chance to fight against each other.
This training unit ends with 500 Jodan Mawashi Geri in sequence. Not only the spectators could believe this, but the cameraman of the film team forgot to film for a short time.
The afternoon was reserved for the kids with Bavarian games. The quizmaster, Hans Zellner, had prepared a lot of funny games for the kids. Shihan Tabata and Shihan Koi were deeply moved as they saw all the kids with the blue camp shirts where both Shihans were shown as caricature. In the evening a big barbeque was prepared with steaks, sausages and a lot of homemade salads. As guest of honor the major of Manching/Oberstimm Mr. Heribert Nerb was invited and he welcomed Shihan Tabata, Shihan Koi and all the participants. So the day ends in familiar atmosphere.

On Sunday the morning run starts at 6:30 am, followed by a training unit. Shihan Koi trained Kumite combinations and Shihan Tabata trained Kata with the black belts again. Also this training ends with Jodan Mawashi Geri. Shihan Tabata couldn`t believe that all participants said OSU as he announced 600 Jodan Mawashi Geri in sequence. So he asked again “do you want 600” and had a smile on his face. OSU was the answer of the Karateka. He knew, this Kyokushin family would follow him, up to the 600 Jodan Mawashi Geri.

After breakfast the gym was cleaned and prepared with the Tatami for the last Kumite training. In this training unit especially the Karateka who made their Kyu graduation were arrogated. At the end of this last training unit all fighter were beat. All candidates for Kyu graduation passed.

The training unit ends with a photo shooting. Shihan Tabata and Shihan Koi showed a lot of patience, because everybody wanted a picture with them. After a common lunch and farewell of the most of the participants the kids were picked up by their parents.

At 2.30 o´clock pm Shihan Tabata and Shihan Koi performed a referee course for some Karateka. Also some young Karateka took part at this course to study this intricate theme. The Shihans were impressed of the seriousness and the eager to learn of the participants. At 5 o´clock pm the referee course ends.

At 7 o´clock pm the Sayonara party started in the hotel Euringer which was held in honor to Shihan Tabata and Shihan Koi. Sensei Dietmar was very happy that the Karateka from Austria, Holland and Poland took time to join the party. After dinner, Mr. Hans Eder, member of the board of the Sport Club Oberstimm thanked Shihan Tabata and Shihan Koi and presented a club pennant to the Shihans.

On Monday morning, after a common breakfast, the German delegation brought the Shihans back to Munich airport. Shihan Tabata, Shihan Koi, Sensei Dietmar, Walter Stippel, Gerri Hohma and Detlef Juergens where deeply moved as it was time to say good bye.

This weekend we made the experience of “a big Kyokushin family” with our new friends from Poland, Holland and Austria. Special thanks goes to Shihan Tabata and Shihan Koi for this unforgettable time.

With their greatly Kyokushin spirit, their friendly and companionable manner, both Shihans showed us that Kyokushin is not only written on paper but lives.

Shihan Shigeru Tabata and Shihan Yoshikazu Koi will be in our hearts, forever.
